I’m Making Money!
$4.38, folks! That’s right, four big ones. Or little ones I guess. But don’t forget the 38 cents. I know you’re thinking that a guy bragging about making $4.38 is pretty ridiculous, but I have to admit I was excited when I logged into my adsense account for the first time since starting the blog on Feb. 25. I really only set up the ads to learn the technical aspects of it and didn’t expect to make anything yet, so seeing that someone owes me any amount of money for what I have done so far was a thrill. It also motivated me to look into other money making possibilities.
Affiliate marketing. I’m not talking about the junk emails you get promising to make a certain part of your body increase by 3″ within 2 weeks. You do get those, right? Is it just me? Anyway, affiliate marketing is where you place a link or ad to a certain product or service and with the tracking code involved, you either get paid per click or paid a percentage of the purchase. The thing I like about the idea is that it gives you more control over what is being advertised on your blog. This allows you to keep your credibility by advertising only products or services which you either use yourself, or have done enough research that you can recommend them to your readers whole-heartedly. So after much research, I am sincerely recommending shareasale to anyone interested in taking that next step towards monetizing their blog. It’s free, it takes about 3 minutes to sign up, and you get access to thousands of companies that have set up their affiliate marketing programs with shareasale. In addition to giving you control over what you are advertising, the fact that they are a third party affiliate company gives you added protection against fraud. They run regular checks and keep reports for you to see about the merchants, ensuring there is no click or sales fraud. In other words, they make sure you don’t get screwed.
So this week I am going to look for a few services to recommend for my readers, and bust my butt on getting traffic. Maybe my income will swell up past the $5.00 mark. By the way, would it annoy you if I had an adsense ad at the bottom of each post? I really want your input on it. The contest is going well…Anca seems to be kicking your butts.

That seems very good start. I was very happy when I got first adsense check for little over $120 dollars. $100 is not a big money but first earning on the internet is always great.

I love this blog and I wish you the best Nathan. Go ahead put ads everywhere. I l know you can’t encourage people to click them, but putting them everywhere lets people know you want to make some money.

I put google adsense just for a couple of days, made around 50 cents, and took it out. I didn’t like it. But if it works for you, go ahead. I would have no problem with a small link or something at the end of your post, as long as it’s not a big block of advertisment. You said you want our input on this, so I’m being honest: I don’t like ads, and sites that have lots of it do annoy me. Especially if it’s all over the post area, and it makes navigating your site harder. For now your blog has very little ads and a few more won’t hurt, I would definetly keep coming back!

Not to make you feel worse. But that four dollars you made is actually only worth a dollar from 2001!
Inflation is a biotch!

Nate, you should have bought a $500,000 house on an interest only mortgage. Then when the payments went up, you could have had free rent for 8-12 months before the police showed up.

Scary stuff!
P.S. I hear people in Detroit are cutting down telephone wires and selling the copper for scrap.

Yeah, apparently even though they are now only copper plated zinc, the copper in a penny is worth more than a penny.

I like your new admin comment style! And sorry to have made you put off your long ad block placement. It’s true, I personally don’t like those long blocks, others might not have a problem. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll still be a faithful reader!

Thank you, Anca. I do value your opinion. I’ll have to install the wordpress block ads when you’re on vacation sometime.

You have made more then me, and I have had my blog longer I think. Oh well.
So copper is the way to go now huh? Maybe I can create my own form of money, but only I can use it, and I will only buy beer with it. I need no other source.
